George Washington quote:
"I want an American character, that the powers of Europe may be convinced we act for ourselves and not for others; this in my judgement, is the only way to be respected abroad and happy at home."
Then we have President Obama making a speech in France, and he says the following:
"In America there is a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union, and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times when America has shown arrogance, and been dismissive, even derisive."
